This story was one that was close to my heart and included many true events in my life. Above all, it stresses one of the most important relationships of my lifetime. High school senior Mike Reeves had it all. He was the quarterback for his high school team and had a bright future. Then, he suffered a career ending knee injury that left him wondering what he would do without his favorite sport. Mike’s dad was his biggest fan, but his father had a terrible addiction to alcohol and seemed to fall deeper into his addiction after Mike’s injury. Not able to help his father, he decides to concentrate on track and field to occupy his time. His school awards the Talbot Trophy to the best track athlete each season and Mike found himself reluctantly competing for it. When his father falls ill, he decides to try to win the trophy for his ailing father.
In the tradition of the Notebook and Brian’s Song, it’s a story of love. The story and the characters he meets in his senior year touch his life forever. It also addresses the impact that alcoholism in the home has on the lives of family members.

It's a good book that shows many of the problems a high school senior goes through.From a knee injury,an alcoholic father,and former team mates that hold a grudge,life isn't as easy as some would think for Mike. As the synopsis states,many of the events are true,and I can still picture them in my head,from Bill's breaking the school record in the mile,to the author and I using the old warehouse in the winter to run.I thoroughly enjoyed it.
