Maxime A discovery of love in 19th Century Paris edition by James Argiro Literature Fiction eBooks
It takes a lot to get me to read fiction these days. My brain seems to be too full of racing thoughts about the world. But Jim Argiro's book about these romantic characters in what seemed like 19th century Paris just swept me up in its plot twists and its psychological insights. I read it in one sitting--very unusual for me. And it felt like I was reading some undiscovered work by a psychological realist or romantic writer of the mid-19th century: is it a short story by De Maupassant? Or Flaubert (who by coincidence, is the surname of one of the female lead characters?) Or is it Dostoevsky? Then, too, there were notes of Milan Kundera in some of the inner-dialogue philosophy, and the ironies romantic love that take place in the narrative.Argiro channels and blends all these voices incredibly deftly, so that at times the novel rings nostalgic. Yet simultaneously Argiro is able to summon a deep and elegantly plotted terrain with some acute psychological insight. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and was sad to let it go at the end.

Maxime A discovery of love in 19th Century Paris edition by James Argiro Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This book by pianist James Argiro is an absolute gem. Jim's story about a French college professor's search for love is sensitive, articulate, warm and spell-binding. I started reading and couldn't put it down. Jim, you've certainly followed an interesting path since the Sony & Cher Show!
Maxime is a captivating love story. Short enough to read from start to finish, and good enough to wish it didn't end so soon. I hope Mr. Argiro writes a sequel.
Like Goldlocks, not too long, not too short. Just right. I do like Argiro's capture of 18th century dialogue and phrasing. Interesting plot twists. All in all a very good read. Hope there will be more to come.
What a delightful read, especially for one(me) who loves the image of Paris during the luminous years. Sensitive writing by an obviously sensitive man. Women, especially, will appreciate the psychological and emotional musings of a man in love. Hooray, Argiro!
